PC MAGAZINE CRASHES
December 30th, 2008 by Matt Ray

Like QUEEN said, “Another one bites the dust!”

PC Magazine will be moving its entire publishing strategy to ONLINE only.  The popular mag built a strong reputation for the quality of its reviews and advice to tech buyers, but will NOW only be available via digital delivery starting in February.

Along with that announcement, Ziff Davis Media, the magazine’s publisher, has renamed PC Magazine Network as PC Magazine Digital Network. Its flagship site, PCMag.com, reached more than 7 million unique monthly visitors — or 10 times greater than the circulation of the print edition, the company said.

Built around content, the PC Magazine Digital Network also enables brands to position themselves while driving measurable response results through innovative techniques. One of those includes audience targeting via Yahoo-branded properties.

A Holiday Prayer…From GFN
December 24th, 2008 by Matt Ray

Armani

Which art in Hermes

Hallowed by thy fame.

 Thy Cartier watch

My Prada bag

On Rodeo

As it is in Tiffany’s.

Give us this day our Visa Gold

And forgive us our overdraft

As we forgive those who decline our credit line.

Lead us not into J.C. Penney

And deliver us from Sears

For thine is the Chanel, the Gaultier and the Versace.

 For Dolce and Gabbana.Amex.

3D ON THE WAY! Will Save Movie Biz! Neat Glasses!
December 16th, 2008 by Matt Ray

Yesterday, GFN was one of the lucky group of cutting edge websites and media outlets invited to a special breakfast meeting with Dreamworks SKG founder Jeffrey Katzenberg.  Jeff, as he asked we call him, was in town stumping up support for the new line of 3D movies Dreamworks will be distributing.  Along with a stirring speech (and donuts) the assembled press got to see three incredible clips from the upcoming Monsters Vs. Aliens movie - ALL IN 3D.  Katzenberg and Dreamworks are banking a lot of hot R&D money that America will be returning to the cinemaplexes for 3D fare….And they may be right from the clips I saw.

My friend Steve over at Newsarama.com wrote a very interesting recount of the event, I suggest you check it out….HERE!

We Seed
December 11th, 2008 by Matt Ray

If your like me, and had all your liquid assets in a pillowcase buried in your back yard,; then you should be taking advantage of the new lows our stockmarket has sunk to. It’s a blue light special on stocks!  But if your also like me, you have no clue what your doing… I would ask the gang here at GFN - but they having been spending a considerable ammount of time in the bathrooms crying…… I am learning all about the mysteries of the stock market by following that same advice, with WeSeed.com

Run out of the Chicago Board Of Trade and co-founded by an Oprah-approved expert, Seed’s a fantasy trading site that hopes to stimulate interest in the market by encouraging you to to learn without blowing your hard-earned retirement portfolio. Armed with $10k in funny money, you can seek companies that match your interests via 16 categories, or go manual with the “Search Passions” tool and type in anything that tickles your fancy.   I’m already making a killing!  A killing!  Next week, I’m entering the real market. Look for me boys!

Christie Hefner for Governor…or Senator…or Something…
December 9th, 2008 by Matt Ray

Porn princess Christie Hefner is out of a job!   The Playboy CEO said Monday that she’ll step down next month after more than 23 years at the company her daddy founded.

Playboy,  has faced a tough environment and recently reduced annual costs by $12 million and shed about 80 positions. A decline in ad spending led the company to a $5.2 million loss in the third quarter, and the company said it would go out of the DVD business, as well as consolidate its West Coast offices.

In an appearance on CNBC yesterday, Hefner said she “wouldn’t be able to step down if the company weren’t in such strong shape.”

“Playboy Enterprises Inc. has literally and figuratively been my life and career for more than 30 years,” Hefner said. “I have had a remarkable career with Playboy. I never expected to go into the family business, much less to stay here this long, but I have enjoyed the challenges and opportunities the past decades have presented.”

Rumors swirl that Hefner, a HUGE Obama-Mama, will be taking a position in the President-elect’s cabinet.  But, the GFN braintrust thinks she should stay local!  With today’s hot-n-juicy state scandal in Illinois, we need Hefner in the Midwest.   Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich & his chief of staff have been arrested on federal charges, according to the US attorney’s office in Chicago.  So not only is Obama’s seat OPEN, but looks like they will need a new Governor!

Hefner has been running a multi-billion dollar empire for 23 years.  You think Hef has been involved? Honestly? He can’t see past the blonde on his shoulder.  Christie is a gifted, liberal, and unique executive.  I say snatch (ha! pun!) the lady up!
